I understand it is a bit vague in nature, but your point is well stated. It is the Macro of the function of actually delivering a service at the developer, Help Desk, Support professional level at risk of outsourcing. How we leverage these frameworks to streamline processes and costs associated with providing quality support to clients will offer alternatives to management rather than simply outsourcing under the guise of cost savings.

Re: Introducing Process

I hope I’m not going to far off topic but even in the ERP Software Industry IT is becoming more of a service then a department in a company. People are out sourcing their IT staff and it’s even happening for small internal networking. SAAS (Software as a Service) is becoming over popular and many IT Specialists are losing their career. Many of those who are in IT forget the fact that we are there to provide a need to the line of business. Without them, we would not be in demand or simply put, have a career.

Other great points is the project approach and buy-in. Most techies forget that having a strong grasp of project management helps in the success of implementing almost anything in today's world. Setting clear objectives is key. Scope creep can happen at anytime with almost anything you are trying to implement. Recruit and get buy-in on key personnel early. Keep them informed whether it is by conducting meetings or sending meeting minutes. Meeting should be concise, productive and effective. The worst thing is to have an hour meeting and 30 minutes was a discussion of how Sally spent her weekend in the Hamptons.
